Born in Dullingham in Q2-1897 [Newmarket 3b:505]( baptised 15 August 1897) son of George and Mabel Lily SYMONDS(née HEATH) of Lacey's Lane, Exning.

1901 census...William [3] was staying at Church Lane, Dullingham with his grandparents Robert and Rachel SYMONDS. His parents, father George [28] a platelayer's labourer, mother Lily [26] and half sister Annie HEATH [8] and sister Ellen [2] were all at 3 Lacey's Lane, Exning. All are recorded as Dullingham born.

1911 census...William [13], a domestic houseboy was at Grafton Street (now Black Bear Lane, Newmarket with his parents, sister Ellen and Dorothy [9] born Exning} and brothers Thomas [4] and Stanley [1] both born in Dullingham. Annie HEATH was now a servant in Cambridge.


Only CWGC have him as Charles William, all other records show William Charles.

He enlisted in Newmarket. Being in the Artillery it is not possible at present to state where or when he was wounded unless his military records are found.

William is buried in Ste Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, France- Ref:Div. 3 P.1
and also commemorated on the Roll of Honour of All Saints School, Newmarket
